Dominated by the cliff top ruins of a 13th century Abbey, this quaint maritime town with its old cobbled streets, picturesque houses and beautiful sandy beaches was once home of Captain James Cook - probably Whitby’s most famous inhabitant. Also famous for Bram Stoker's Dracula, Frank Meadow Sutcliffe (Victorian photographer), Whitby Jet and of course the Fish 'n' Chips.

More recently filming in television programmes, such as Heartbeat and the Royal and many documentaries. In addition there are numerous events occurring all year round including Regatta, Folk Week, and Gothic Conventions.

Explore Whitby’s narrow alleys and cobble streets. The old town where you find yourself within an array of unique shops, and the 199 steps to the famous Whitby Abbey, with amusement arcades, the Dracula Experience, museums, mini golf, bus tours, leisure centre and many more entertainments.

Whitby is now an all year round holiday resort and can be enjoyed equally by those who want to relax and take in the sights and history and for those who want a more lively visit there are many bars, nightclubs, local pubs and award winning restaurants.

Whitby today continues to be a busy fishing port offering excellent sea fishing from the piers, quay or off shore on one of the numerous fishing trips.

Access to other attractions and places of interest is easy from Whitby. Flamingoland Zoo and theme park, Scarborough, Grosmont steam railway, Heartbeat country, Goathland (otherwise known as Aidensfield), Robins Hood's Bay and the North Yorkshire Moors to name a few are all just a short drive away.

Overall Whitby is an ideal all year round holiday resort where visitors are welcomed in their 1000’s.
